Course Details

For this course we can conduct the training at your facility or at our own training facility, whichever will suit your needs best. There are some great benefits to both approaches. By completing your training on-site we can save your staff travel time, by completing your training at our facility you can benefit from our spacious training room, our state of the art hands on training space and full use of our break room.

This training program will cover the legislative requirements and measures for spill reporting and cleanup. Participants will be taught practical strategies to both prevent and safely contain spills that occur in the workplace. Training programs are routinely customized to reflect client sites and products.

Advanced Spill Response Training is an 8 hour, full-day program that includes hands-on practical spill drills. Unlike our standard 4 hour Spill Response course, which focuses on classroom theory, the Advanced program provides real-world experience through mock spill response exercises. Participants will apply their knowledge in simulated spill scenarios, practising containment techniques, using actual spill response equipment, and executing the eight safe and practical steps for effective spill cleanup under instructor guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who should enroll in Advanced Spill Response Training?

Advanced Spill Response Training is designed for employers, supervisors, workers, workplace spill response or emergency response team members, Joint Health and Safety Committee members, and environmental managers who require hands-on experience with spill response procedures. This advanced program is particularly valuable for designated spill response team members, facility operators who handle hazardous materials regularly, environmental coordinators responsible for emergency response, and workers in high-risk environments where spill incidents are more likely. Anyone who works with hazardous materials, chemicals, oils, or other substances that could create environmental hazards and needs practical, hands-on training in spill containment and cleanup should enroll in this advanced course.

What's the difference between Spill Response Training and Advanced Spill Response Training?

Spill Response Training is a 4 hour classroom-based program that covers legislative requirements, spill reporting procedures, risk assessment, and containment strategies through instruction, videos, and quizzes. Advanced Spill Response Training is an 8 hour full-day program that includes all the theoretical components plus hands-on practical spill drills. In the Advanced course, participants apply what they’ve learned through mock spill response exercises using actual spill response equipment, containment materials, and cleanup procedures. This practical component allows you to experience real-world scenarios, practice containment techniques, and build confidence in your ability to respond effectively to actual spill incidents. If your role requires you to physically respond to spills, the Advanced program with practical drills is recommended.

How long is Advanced Spill Response Training?

ACUTE’s Advanced Spill Response Training is a full-day program that takes 8 hours to complete. The course combines classroom instruction covering legislative requirements under the Ontario Environmental Protection Act, spill reporting and risk assessment procedures, with hands-on practical training through mock spill response drills. You’ll learn through interaction with experienced instructors, demonstrations, hands-on use of spill response equipment, detailed handouts, videos, and quizzes. The practical component allows you to apply the eight safe and practical steps for spill response in simulated scenarios, ensuring you’re prepared to handle real spill incidents safely and effectively in your workplace.
