Frequently Asked Questions

Who should enroll in Transportation of Dangerous Goods training?

Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) training is required for employers, supervisors, and workers who are involved in transporting, offering for transport, or receiving dangerous goods. This includes truck drivers, warehouse personnel, shipping and receiving staff, logistics coordinators, dispatchers, and environmental workers who may be called to provide dangerous goods-related emergency spill response services. The Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act mandates that anyone involved in the offering, handling, or transport of dangerous goods must be trained at minimum every three years (36 months). If you handle, ship, or receive any of the nine classes of dangerous goods, including flammable materials, corrosives, gases, or toxic substances, this training is legally required to ensure safe handling and regulatory compliance.

Which TDG course do I need?

The 8 hour TDG course is recommended for first-time certification or when full TDG training is required. This comprehensive full-day program covers all aspects of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations, including the nine classes of dangerous goods, shipping documentation, safety marks, placards and labels, means of containment, emergency response procedures, and hands-on practical review of TDGR Schedules using the Transporting Dangerous Goods By Truck handbook. The 4 hour TDG course is intended as a refresher for experienced workers who have previously completed full TDG training and need to meet the three-year recertification requirement. The refresher focuses on regulatory updates and reinforcing key concepts for those already familiar with TDG requirements.

Is the 4 hour TDG course available as a public class?

No, the 4-hour TDG refresher is offered through private training only. Our public training schedule features the comprehensive 8 hour TDG course, which provides full certification and is appropriate for both new workers and those requiring recertification. If your team consists of experienced workers who only need a refresher, we can arrange private 4-hour training sessions at your facility or our training centre. Private training offers the flexibility to customize the content based on your team’s experience level and the specific dangerous goods your organization handles, making it an efficient option for companies with multiple workers requiring recertification.

Can private TDG training be customized?

Yes, private TDG training can be delivered as either an 8 hour or 4 hour program depending on your team’s experience and operational needs. We routinely customize our TDG training to focus on the specific classes of dangerous goods your organization handles, your shipping and receiving processes, and the unique challenges your workplace faces. Private training can be conducted at your facility, allowing us to reference your actual dangerous goods, shipping documents, and containment methods during instruction, or at our training centre in Waterloo or London. This customized approach ensures your team receives relevant, practical training that directly applies to their day-to-day responsibilities while meeting the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act’s mandatory training requirements.
